The Commander-in-Chief, Starfleet or formally Commander-in-Chief, Starfleet Forces is a senior flag officer appointment. The office was established in June 2161 and the office holder is responsible for the command and control of the Starfleet Armed Forces.
The Starfleet C-in-C is the only uniformed officer to hold the 6 Star Rank of Admiral of the Starfleet. The post holder is also head and chairman of the Starfleet Combined Chiefs of Staff. They are assisted by a Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Starfleet who acts as the vice-chairman of Combined Chiefs of Staff.
1) History
The Commander-in-Chief, Starfleet (also known as the C-in-C) is the senior most officer of the Federation Starfleet Armed Forces. The C-in-C who is Federation Government Cabinet Level Officer serves as the senior military advisor to the Federation President, Federation Secretary of Starfleet and the Federation Security Counci, They exercise operational authority over the whole of the Federation Starfleet Armed Forces.
Appointment to the position requires the consent of the Federation Council.
